Keep Epping District Green (KEDG) is a community organisation formed by local residents concerned about increasing pressure on Epping District’s green belt.
We 'Keepers' are independent, non-commercial, and non-party-political. We do not operate as a membership organisation and are run entirely by volunteers.
He's a Keeper. So is his sister. And Mum, Dad, Grandma and Grandad. Now you can be too.
We are not opposed to development in principle. We recognise the need for well-planned housing and infrastructure. However, we believe that green belt land should only be released in genuinely exceptional circumstances and in full compliance with good national and local planning policy.
Our purpose is to support informed, evidence-based engagement with the planning system by:
Commissioning independent professional advice where there is a clear public interest
Making that evidence available for local residents, community leaders and community groups to reference
Encouraging accurate, proportionate, and policy-based planning representations
How we operate
KEDG raises funds through voluntary donations. These funds are used primarily to commission independent consultants’ reports and specialist advice relevant to planning proposals affecting the green belt.
KEDG is founder-led. Decisions about which evidence to commission, which applications to prioritise, and how funds are deployed are made by the founder, informed by input from Keepers and the wider community.
There is no committee, no membership vote, and no bureaucracy. This is intentional - planning moves fast, and so must we. Developers submit applications continuously and commission professional evidence to support them. Effective opposition requires the same speed and focus.
The founder is accountable for how funds are spent and publishes that information openly on this site. All professional work is carried out by independent consultants appointed by the founder. No one running KEDG is paid.
Keepers who contribute financially have no voting rights, but their input is always welcome and their expertise: local, professional, or lived, is actively sought.
